Refreshers v Slinfold

A delight of a game played against a fantastic opposition (as usual), but unfortunately without the benefit of their delicious tea due to ongoing restrictions. On a side-note, they have absolutely guaranteed fantastic weather again next year, so do sign up!

We restricted Slinfold to a score of 183 for 9. A special mention here to their no. 2 batsman Mo Hussain, who retired on 73, brought low by fasting – we have the utmost respect for his great effort. We used 9 bowlers, 4 wickets taken by Max Fullerton and 2 by Christian Kenny, with some lovely bowling on display, in particular an unrewarded opening spell of some excellence by Harry Wise.

Jon Willatt delivered his usual display of keeping ability, saving some of Godschalk’s ropey bowling (her own description) from sailing for byes. In fact, there were only 2 byes in total!

At haf time the skipper (said Godchalk) confesses to having been fairly confident in reaching the total, but I’m afraid that despite contributions from everyone, and some good-looking batting on display, Refreshers fell 50 short of the total. On debut for the Refreshers were Stuart Brady (19), Christian Kenny (26), William Harding (12), Max Fullerton (20) and Mike Fullerton who carried his bat. I sincerely hope that they will all play for us again this season.

So… not the best result, but a joy to play in this game.
