Refreshers v CIPA CITMA; Tuesday 4 August 2020

HEADLINE:We gave them a good stuffing!

Refreshers lost the toss, and they chose to bat, they looked to have an ok couple of lefty/righty opening pair. Burton and Finch opened the bowling and restricted them reasonably well before Dan removed the right hander. He bowled his 4 overs straight through and took a second wicket.
Finchy’s mate Josh bowled some erratic stuff but they didn’t have much attacking intent and he largely got away with it. He bowled the 6th and 8th overs before returning for the 17th and 19th. Chris and Sachin bowled their 4 overs each of spin and kept it tight, picking up the odd wicket. We held our catches and fielded well – in all likelihood their second highest scorer (the opener retired at 25 as per their rules) was byes through our keeper!
Josh and I returned to finish off the innings and they scored 109-8 off their 20 – which was never enough with short boundaries and a quick outfield.

The wicket gave nothing at all for seamers, slow, low and a bit two-paced.
Mike Edwards and Rob Tatton-Brown opened up in a bit of a rush, TB got himself out to a spinner, Sam Burrett came in and was thrown up a series of full tosses which he smashed away and swiftly got to 25 to retire. Paul Stewart batted 4 and was out for none. His son Joe went 5 and was out first ball. Sachin came in at 6 and bludgeoned some, seeing it out with Josh who went in at 7.

We knocked off the 110 target in around 11 overs and less than 45 minutes. A shame in hindsight that we didn’t get to bat first but we were much too good for them despite only having 4 and a half bowlers – I think we’d have chased 200+ easily enough if we had to.
