Refreshers v Felsted

23 July 2023

The weather gods saw fit to allow this fixture to take place. The seemingly unending July rain broke about two hours before the first ball was balled and did not resume its onslaught until after the last run had been scored.

Refreshers batted first on a green top. Wickets regrettably fell early and then at regular intervals thereafter. Other than a sparkling 83 from Josh O’C and a typically quick-fire 26 from Sachin T, no-one else reached double figures. 159 all out without using our full quota of 35 overs looked at least 30-40 short of par.

As it turned out, a more ruthless fielding display might have rescued the situation. However, Refreshers were in generous form, dropping no less than 6 catches (none admittedly easy). Even so, with Felsted at  80-4, we were still in the game. However, Felsted’s No.4 and No.6 steadied the ship and, although they both fell before the innings was out, Felsted got home comfortably with 4 wickets and plenty of balls to spare.

Fortunately, the result was quickly forgotten after the game as the teams enjoyed a good few beers together in The Chequers in the rare Summer sunshine!
