Refreshers v Hac 1st Sep 2012
A strong Refreshers side overcame the HAC on Saturday in a game that curiously mirrored the Lords ODIbetween England and South Africa played the following day. We won the toss and put the home side in. Nosworthy, Saunders, Giles Haywood and Owen Roach bowled particularly well, the latter taking 4 for 19 and knocking the stuffing out of the HAC middle order. At 63 for 9 both teams were thinking of a T20 but the last wicket produced 72 runs and HAC were finally bowled out for 135. Rob Cook and The President opened our reply; the latter had scored 8 in 10 overs when he decided someone else should have a bat – the HAC scorebook records his dismissal as “walked off”. Cook scored 24, Richard Saunders an excellent 44 n.o. and Marcus Haywood a punchy 28 n.o. as we eased home with more than 15 overs to spare. A lovely warm day and a satisfying result.
