Chelsea Arts Club 5th July 2014

We arrived with a decent team this year; CAC asked for a declaration match and, having won the toss, put us in on what was, for the second year running, a poor pitch.  A 1.30 start finally got going at 2.11 and we scored 183 for 3 in the 37 overs bowled before tea. Sam Burrett was unbeaten with 80 and James Skelton made 60.  We declared at exactly half time (4.45) and after a lengthy tea CAC began their reply, never really looking as though they were likely to make the runs required to win. In the event they reached 80 for 7 with one man unable to bat and David Maddocks next in. Trevor Semper bowled beautifully taking 4 for about 25 with his fast varied spin; Richard Saunders, Sarbie, Owen Roache and Milo Skelton also bowled well. Jacob Sandleman took two nicely judged catches and Sam Burrett executed a top class stumping. The Caribbean chatter during the CAC innings (from Owen, Sarbie and Trevor) was enthusiastic and of the highest order.  A clear moral victory for the Refreshers.
