Refreshers v Falconhurst 17 May 2014

A charming ground near Edenbridge and a relatively long-standing Refreshers fixture. A strong side batted first on a warm summer’s day – not the bright sunshine promised by the forecasters but high light cloud and ideal conditions. Everyone got runs, Sam Burrett (20), Richard Saunders (21), Anu Mohindru (66), Owen Roach (27), David Alexander (17), Harry Nosworthy (16), Michael Edwards (21), James Finch (16 n.o.) Sith Haria Shah (2 n.o.) as we posted 235 for 7 in 43 overs (or more relevantly, 150 minutes). Falconhurst’s reply was never really on the pace and having fallen behind the asking rate from the outset they never looked like getting home – but more frustratingly for us, we could not dislodge the 10th wicket pair and our hosts ended on 125 for 9. Knechtlr carried his bat for 43. We all bowled well; the wickets were shared between Anu Mohindru (5), Owen Roach (2) and Philip Cayford (2). A couple of apparent caught behinds were apparently not audible edges after all, but we had our chances and dropped a couple of them in the latter stages and a draw was a fair tribute to the doggedness of Falconhurst’s last pair who held on for more than ten overs at the death.
